BEADING FOR BEGINNERS with Dora Ahwinona
Mondays / 7-9 p.m. / Oct. 13-Dec. 1 / REGISTER BY: NEXT Monday,

Eight 2-hour sessions / 1 credit / APAR 150
Cost: $137 + beading supplies
Learn to create beaded earrings, necklaces, bracelets and pen covers
in this introductory course on basic bead jewelry making. Students
will learn to use a pattern working with brick stitch and peyote
stitch, and basic bead stringing. Make beautiful pieces to wear—or to
give as gifts!
Dora Ahwinona has been beading and skin-sewing full-time for the past
five years while caring for her children. Her pieces have been
honored at the Iditarod Fine Art Show.

NORTHWEST CAMPUS WRITERS GROUP with Nancy Mendenhall

Nine 2-hour sessions / Non-credit workshop / Cost: $20
This writers workshop is open to anyone age 16 and older who is
interested in a peer critique of their works in progress, and who
will bring samples of their own work of fiction, personal history, or
other nonfiction to share. We will all offer positive critiques for
each other’s samples. Regular attendance and participation are
important!
Nancy Mendenhall has lived in this region since 1970 and taught
English at Northwest Campus. Now retired, she has written regional
social histories and is working on a book on small-scale fishing. She
coordinated an oral history project for Nome in 1996-99.

TRADITIONAL PORTRAITURE with Autumn Falls

Eight 3-hour sessions / 1 credit / APAR F150
Cost: $137 + supplies
Create portraits in the traditional medium of your choice: oil,
watercolor, pastel, graphite, charcoal, ink, pencil, etc. Instruction
will emphasize self-expression by developing spontaneous artistic
ideas into a more focused style. Learn to paint or draw portraits
through easy-to-understand lectures and exercises. For beginning and
advanced students. Instruction in the various media will be given as
needed.
Autumn Falls has been a courtroom artist and tattoo artist, and does
portrait commissions. She holds certificates in fine and commercial
arts. Her work has won Best in Show at the Iditarod Fine Arts Show.

SCULPTURE & MOLD-MAKING TECHNIQUES FOR
BRONZE & CERAMIC SCULPTURES with Cam Kristenson

Eight 3-hour sessions / 1 credit / ART F193
Cost: $137 + supplies
In this course students will be shown how to make armatures for clay
sculptures. When the sculptures are made students will then learn how
to replicate their sculptures in a variety of mediums including:
plaster, wax, rockite, and ceramic slip.
Award-winning artist Cam Kristensen holds a bachelor of fine arts
degree in metalsmithing and Native arts from the University of Alaska
Fairbanks. Cam works for Crowley Marine Services.
