Hi Nome – Interested in improving your fisheries business skills?
Glenn Haight, business specialist with UAF Marine Advisory Program (Juneau) is offering a **FREE** distance course in “The Business of Fish” through the University of Alaska.
You can view the classes on cable TV, channel 12 in Nome; or online at http://uatv.alaska.edu/ on Tuesdays 12:00 – 12:50; September 16 through December 9, 2008.
The Business of Fish will cover a number of subjects related to financial management for a commercial fishing operation, and will cover the basics of business financial management: accounting, income tax, business organization, writing a business plan, financing, vessel and crew insurance, as well as state and federal fisheries regulations.
Several subjects will feature guest lecturers. A separate course on fishermen direct marketing will air beginning October 22. Instructors will cover practical considerations to seafood marketing such as regulations, marketing strategy, and financial management.
