The following 2 courses will prepare you to take the Comp TIA A+
Certification exam, which can lead you to a job in information
technology! These courses are offered over the Internet using
Elluminate Live and Blackboard--perfect for anyone in Nome, our area
villages, and beyond.
(A) MICROCOMPUTER OPERATING SYSTEMS - WINDOWS: A+

Explore the inner workings of PC operating systems, focusing on
Windows 2000/XP/Vista. Learn to configure, install and administer the
system and how to give technical support to others having computer
problems.

In this course, unlock the secrets of hardware configuration and
troubleshooting. Learn to install, remove and configure computer
hardware components and diagnose hardware problems.
Long-time Northwest Campus faculty member Joe Mason teaches a variety
of courses, from computer troubleshooting to college reading to
English composition.

AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE PRACTICE with Pearl Mikulski

Ten 90-minute sessions / 1 credit / ASLG F110
Cost: $137 + one book
Learn basic skills in American Sign Language and begin to understand
how to interact with deaf individuals. Lip reading, signing, finger
spelling, interpretation of songs or poems, and cultural aspects of
the Deaf “world” will be covered. All skill levels welcome. May be
repeated twice for credit. Class meets at Bible Baptist Church
Pearl Mikulski works as a planner at Kawerak, Inc. She has provided
sign language interpretation for church sermons and has experience
teaching sign language.

FUNDAMENTALS OF SUPERVISION with Melanie Burtis

Learn about effective supervisory concepts including planning,
organizing and staffing functions. This course will cover
communicating and delegating effectively, morale, productivity,
decision making, positive position discipline and performance goals
development.
Melanie Burtis is associate professor of applied business at
Northwest Campus. She teaches business and computer skills in Nome
and throughout the region. Melanie has a doctoral degree in education.
